Organisational Culture series - Part 2 Beliefs of the Company
This text is part of a mini series called ‘Organisational Culture’. It is primarily aimed at people that are exploring our website and want to get an understanding of what kind of things we value at RUNOGAMES. If you are interested in joining us, feel free to check out our careers page.
In part 1 we looked at goals and vision of the Company. If you have not read that yet, you may check it out here. It is worth doing so if you want to get a sense of what the goals of RUNOGAMES are and what is our vision.
In this piece we will proceed onto the next step and look at our beliefs. We will explain how they shape our approach to work and form the core of the identity in the organisation.
You can think of these beliefs as being the core at the very centre. Around this core is a layer of our values, which are guiding principles on how to act. Hence, it was important to evaluate all of the Company’s beliefs in order to ensure that the values which are derived from these beliefs are logical and underpin our activities in order to achieve all our goals.
Our belief system is two dimensional, meaning there are 2 categories of beliefs which are distinct because they focus on differing topics.
The first belief system is about our (future :)) customers. Second system is about RUNOGAMES as an entity.
Let’s start with our customer belief system. We believe that people which play mobile games and / or use educational mobile applications on a daily basis deserve much better products than the ones currently available on the market.
There is a 3 step criteria to understand this:
Better in terms of innovation
Better in terms of monetisation
Better in terms of wider, social impact
We believe that games can educate. There ought to be less separation between the two. Obviously, this won’t be a 100%, because not all games need to be educational, like AAA ones. On the other hand, not all educational software needs to be gamified. We are only concerned with mobile applications that are convenient for people to use on a daily basis. These users deserve much higher products and features at reasonable prices that don’t burn a hole in their wallet.
Therefore, we will be playing for the long term and shall not employ aggressive monetisation tactics that ruin user experience. We will only integrate ethical monetisation methods that give our users an option to pay should they wish to do so but not force them, should they not want to.
Innovation is at the heart at all of our work. Not just in terms of product features we will release but also in how the Company will be run. Because we e that there is no reason to run a company that does the same thing what others are doing. Each feature we will ship and each game we will release will be novel in some way, shape or form, made with the sole purpose of serving the needs of our users in a way that delivers greater value to them.
Next, we believe in the power of a strong community, which we intend to build among our followers, with users being at the centre of it. In our view, Community is just as important as the product. We think that creating designs that incentivise customers to make meaningful connections and build relationships with each other will be a key pillar for our shared success.
Following on from this, we believe the concept of ‘Fun’ does not get the treatment it deserves. Our mindset is that it is a serious business, so it will be our ultimate responsibility to never ship a product that is average or looks similar to what is already available on the market. One of our benchmarks for success will be the level of fun the experiences of our users will generate.
Now, let’s move onto the second belief system, concerning the Company itself. Internally, we believe that it is possible to build a successful startup, no matter how challenging the environment is, because success depends on internal factors, not external influences. This is important to note if you want to join our team. We will reward with generous pay but please expect maximum effort to be put into your work. You need to love what you do and enjoy coming to work. Hence, please apply to a position which you are genuinely interested in and the one you want to grow in. Only like that will you be able to produce output that is exceptional and meaningful.
